Dean is a Canterbury junior who, despite injury, showed great potential when appearing in 7 first grade games with St George and Souths between 2003 and 2005 after leading the Bulldogs to three straight Jersey Flegg premierships from 1999 to 2001.

During the 2005 season Dean moved from Souths to the Tigers, after an approach from head coach Tim Sheens, to kick start a career full of first grade promise but frustrated by injury. Believing all his bad luck was gone, Dean immediately impressed at the Tigers and had established himself in the Premier League side, but his biggest tragedy was yet to come. Dean was putting himself in a position to pressure the First Grade halves when he suffered a bad break to his leg.

He required a routine operation, but complications during and after surgery started what was to become set back upon set back. Through multiple operations and life threatening complications Dean was admitted to intensive care more than once. His leg suffered damages beyond repair and ultimately it has ended a very promising career and has significantly altered his lifestyle. A landscaper by trade, Dean also lost his ability to
earn an income.

It is hoped that this evening will give Dean the boost he needs to salvage his life and attain suitable employment. The evening is also a chance for Dean’s mates to show him our full support.

Please make all cheques payable to ‘DEAN BYRNE TRUST FUND’

The event is supported by the Bulldogs, Wests Tigers, Souths, St George and Men Of League.
